Panelist Bios
Pat Jasso: Board of Brooks Development Authority & Bexar County Hospital Board of Managers
Pat is a part-time Community Outreach Coordinator and Trainer for Senior Planet, a national of OATS (Older Adults Technology) targeting seniors 60+. She also taught computer classes for OASIS organization, for people over 50. Additionally, she worked for AT&T until 2011 and served in the Air Force Reserves for 15 years.
She serves board chair of Select Federal Credit Union as well as board of the St Luke’s Health Care Ministries where she serves on the investment committee.
Pat serves on the board of Brooks Development Authority, a 1,308-acre mixed-use community FKA Brooks AFB. The BDA is governed by an 11-member board of directors, appointed by the San Antonio City Council.
Appointed by Commissioners Court she serves on the Board of Managers for University Health System responsible for the overall governance of the Bexar County Hospital District dba University Health.
Until the end of 2021 she was board chair for the Mitchell Lake Audubon Center Advisory Board, overseeing a major wetland habitat on the southside of San Antonio. She currently serves as a board member.
Pat serves as coordinator for Can We Talk, a coalition of over 65 organizations, who has a steering committee made up of members from the coalition that plans two events a year, one in March for Women’s History Month and the other in August for Women’s Equality Day.
One of her passions is politics and she feeds that passion by serving on the C4 board of Annie’s List, a statewide PAC whose mission is to get progressive women elected to office.
She served as board chair for the Texas Business & Professional Women Foundation until June of 2022. Locally, she is Director at Large chair of Texas Business Women San Antonio.
She serves on the SAISD Blue Ribbon Task Force for the 2016 and 2020 bonds.
Until May 31, 2020, Pat served as Vice Chair of the San Antonio Water System (SAWS), the municipality owned utility in San Antonio that serves more than 1.8 million people including 460,000 water customers and 411,000 wastewater customers. SAWS is governed by a Board of Trustees, consisting of San Antonio’s mayor and six members appointed by City Council.
She is a Life Member of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition where she serves on the International Committee.
She is an alumna of Leadership Texas, class of 2006. In 2022 she was awarded one of the Legend awards from the South Texas Business Partnership. In 2017 she was awarded the Comet award by the San Antonio Women’s Chamber of Commerce. In 2016 she was awarded the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber Women’s Legacy Award. From the Association for Women in Communication, she received the Headliner Award for Volunteer Service. In 2005, Pat was inducted into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame in the category of Volunteerism.
Erika Prosper Nirenberg: First Lady of San Antonio, TX & H-E-B, Sr. Dir of Customer Insights
As the Senior Director of Customer Insights for H-E-B, Erika leads a team charged with helping guide the development of H-E-B's strategic vision and operational efforts by providing customer insights to change the business, gain share and establish a preference for the company.
Erika grew up as a migrant in the Rio Grande Valley, earned a Masters in Communication from the University of Pennsylvania Annenberg School, a B.A. in Plan II Liberal Arts, and a second Bachelor's degree in Science in Advertising from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2020, she earned an Executive degree in Behavioral Economics from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Erika was the 2018 Chairwoman of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, having served on its Executive Board for six years. A former board member of Say Si Youth Arts, The San Antonio Economic Development Foundation and SACRD.org, she now sits on the Girls Scouts of Southwest Texas Board, the Methodist Healthcare Ministries Board, and Las Casas Foundation, and is part of the advisory Board for iEmpower, the Latina Power Network, and the SA League of Women Voters. Erika was also the 2019 San Antonio Business Journal’s Woman of the Year, 2019 Governor’s Yellow Rose of Texas honoree, the 2016 H-E-B David Ashworth Community Service Corporate Winner and the 2021 H-E-B Linda D. Jimenez Diversity and Inclusion Corporate Awardee. Her proudest honor, however, was receiving the 2010 Association of Migrant Educators of Texas’ Migrant Alumni Award.
As a co-founder and 2015/2016 Chair of the Latina Leadership Institute and, much of Erika's passion revolves around efforts to help improve quality of life among underserved populations through girls & women empowerment, education, and literacy. In 2018, she launched the Raising and Inspiring Successful Entrepreneurs (R.I.S.E.) program, a bilingual workbook aimed at helping elementary school-aged children develop entrepreneurial mindsets. Erika has led the creation of multiple education and women’s economic development white papers with Rai$ing Texas and the SABER Institute. Since 2022, she has also been appointed as a regional Panelist for the prestigious White House Fellows Program, to include more Latina points of view in National Civics programming. Erika and her husband, San Antonio Mayor, Ron Nirenberg, have one son named Jonah.
Dr. Lyssa Ochoa: Vascular Surgeon, Founder & President at The SAVE Clinic
Dr. Lyssa Ochoa is a board-certified vascular surgeon and founder of the San Antonio Vascular and Endovascular Clinic (The SAVE Clinic) in South San Antonio. The mission of The SAVE Clinic is to reduce the number of diabetes-related amputations in San Antonio, which occur at rates up to 3 times the already-poor statewide rate in some of the city’s most underserved and socioeconomically challenged zip codes. Dr. Ochoa was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, along the Texas-Mexico border, and attended medical school, general surgery residency, and vascular surgery residency at the prestigious Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. She has been practicing vascular surgery in San Antonio since completing her training 2011.
Upon Dr Ochoa’s founding of The SAVE Clinic in 2018, she immediately amplified her focus on addressing the Social Determinants of Health barriers faced by her patients by engaging extensively in community activities, including collaboration in a wide array of grant applications with local universities, educating students ranging from high school to medical residency, serving in non-profit organizations, and raising awareness regarding the both the problems we face and potential solutions for a healthier community in every circle and every venue.
Dr Ochoa has been an avid supporter and participant in local community-focused initiatives including Healthy Corner Stores, Diabetes Management Programs, Siclovia, The Fit Family Challenge, Health Confianza, SA Ready To Work, the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women, and innumerable health and wellness events throughout the community. Dr Ochoa’s tenacious support of our south side community bolstered the realization of the southside Covid-19 mass vaccination site in 2020.
At the statewide level, Dr Ochoa has been selected as a Director of the Texas Lyceum and a Member of the Texas Surgical Society. Nationally, Dr Ochoa has been invited to present her work on SDoH in amputation prevention at professional conferences including the Society for Vascular Surgery Annual Meeting, the International Diabetic Foot Conference, the Houston Aortic Symposium, and The American Diabetes Association Annual Scientific Sessions.
Dr. Ochoa’s continuing work aims to create a sustainable model of vascular care emphasizing social determinants of health for underserved communities in Bexar County as a template for national adoption.
Addinelly "Addy" Moreno Soto: Owner of La Paloma Mobile Beauty Salon & City Council D3, Dir. of Communications
Addinelly "Addy" Moreno Soto holds the position of Communications Director for the City Council Office in District 3. In this role, Addy oversees all social media channels and communications that flow to and from the District 3 office, also serving as a public liaison.
Aside from her role in public service, Addy has been a professional hairstylist since 2009, catering to residents all across San Antonio. She takes great pride in being a small business owner, operating her own mobile hair salon, La Paloma.
Addy's educational journey includes graduating from Brackenridge High School, Palo Alto Community College, and Texas A&M-San Antonio, where she earned a degree in bilingual education.
Before joining the District 3 office in 2021, Addy dedicated herself to teaching as a bilingual schoolteacher in Southwest ISD. Subsequently, she transitioned into the role of a branch office administrator for a financial firm.
Recognized for her accomplishments, Addy received the prestigious 2020 Edward Jones Founder Achievement Award and the esteemed 2022 Texas A&M-San Antonio Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson Jag Women Rock! Award.
In her personal life, Addy tied the knot with her high school sweetheart, Felix, in 2014. The couple is blessed with two handsome boys, Giovanni and Lucciano.
A fascinating tidbit about Addy is that despite being limited to traveling only within the U.S. as a DACA recipient, she has managed to explore 11 different states and still cherishes her love for travel
